Francoeur Homers on Second Consecutive Home Opener
April 1, 2008

Jeff Francoeur spent much of his off-season bulking up in an effort to put up more power numbers. After Atlanta’s home opener, it looks like the work paid off.

Francoeur hit his first home run of the 2008 season, a 12th inning blast off Franquelis Osoria, but the Braves fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-11 in a 12-inning thriller at Turner Field. Francoeur started in right field for the 327th consecutive game, the longest current active streak in the National League and second longest in all of Major League Baseball. Only Cleveland’s Grady Sizemore (355 consecutive games played) has a longer streak.

The blast was Francoeur’s 63rd career home run and the second straight year he has gone deep in the Braves’ home opener. Francoeur hit a home run in the fourth game of the season last year – Atlanta’s home opener – against the New York Mets.
