Francoeur Looking Forward to Upcoming Road Trip
April 9, 2008
Jeff Francoeur and the Braves are currently in Denver facing the Colorado Rockies, the first stop on Atlanta's current 10-game road trip. Francoeur has sizzled during the opening week of the 2008 season, hitting .265 with four runs, four RBI and a home run. In eight games, Francoeur has accumulated a .286 on-base percentage and is slugging .412. His two RBI-double, part of a three-RBI performance, helped Atlanta defeat the division-rival New York Mets 11-5 on Saturday, April 5 in Atlanta. A hometown favorite, Francoeur's .265 batting average ranks 12th among National League outfielders with at least 30 at bats. Last night's 4-3 loss to the Rockies marked the 402nd consecutive game in which Francoeur has played, a streak which tops the National league and trails only Indians OF Grady Sizemore in all of Major League Baseball.
After opening their 10-game road trip with two losses to the Rockies, the Braves are tied with the Washington Nationals for third place in the National League East with a 3-5 record. Atlanta's 44 runs scored and 32 RBI rank second in the National Leagues, and their 73 hits rank fourth in the NL.
Fresh off a two-game sweep of the New York Mets over the weekend, Atlanta looks to regain momentum in the Mile High City. Francoeur and the Braves will face the Rockies again tonight at 8:35 pm eastern and Thursday afternoon at 3:05 pm Eastern. They will then travel to Washington for a three-game series with the Washington Nationals this weekend, April 11-13.
